Duke Head Coach David CutcliffeOn Duke's screen passes today:“They were pressuring and came with six or seven people. Syracuse did a good job with that and the answer is this pressure was to get the ball outside quickly and those battles were won by them. They committed a lot of people to stopping the run.”
On the play of wide receiver Jamison Crowder and cornerback/safety DeVon Edwards:“I thought we had a chance going in anytime we had
Jamison Crowder or
DeVon Edwards. The performance was beautifully executed by that entire unit.”
On Duke's previous games on the road:“It's not easy, we are on the road so much and we haven't played at home but once in this seven week span. That is something our team hasn't done in my career. We've had back-to-back road trips to places we have never been and you have to be proud of that opportunity to build from this. I'm just hoping we know how to play at home.”
On (punter) Will Monday:“I gave credit to him in that locker room and I absolutely value who he is. Will is just a special athlete and I have confidence in him under any circumstances. He is the best punter and we chose to punt because of him and try for 40-yard gains.
On preparing for Syracuse quarterback Mitch Kimble:“We hadn't prepared for Mitch Kimble at all. We had looked at film on (quarterback) AJ Long but we really didn't have much film of Kimble. We kind of knew their strengths and studied their film from high school.”
Duke Wide Receiver Jamison CrowderOn his punt return:“Our coaches felt like we had a lot of opportunities, Syracuse was backed up obviously. They just told me to be a little bit more aggressive. I was able to field the punt, see a lane, and the blocking was great, and I was just able to return it for a touchdown. I think I did get touched when I went up the middle, but other than that it was pretty much clear.”
On being tied at the beginning of the fourth quarter:“I wasn't really surprised the way the game was going. They came out tough and they were playing physical. We weren't really able to commit on offense for most of the football game, and I wasn't really surprised the way the game was going.”
On Syracuse's defense:“Their defense was well prepared today. They were ready for much of the things that we like to run and I just think they were well prepared.”
Duke Cornerback Breon BordersOn Duke's defensive mentality:“We come into every game expecting to win on defense. That's just the mentality we have and that's the mentality our coaches instill in us every week. We come prepared and ready to win. We knew that Syracuse has a really good defense. Coach always says it's our defense versus their defense. We won some individual battles and came out with the win.”
On his interceptions:“The first interception really wasn't supposed to be my play, I was kind of just reading the quarterback the whole way so I turned to the sideline and I saw (
Jeremy Cash) right there to make the play. If I wouldn't have got it he would've gotten it, but I went up for it, stretched out, and got my foot down.”
