DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore Peter Kropp garnered the first ACC Performer of the Week accolade of his career Tuesday, Nov. 25 after punching his ticket to the 2015 NCAA Championship over the weekend at the Janis Hape Dowd Nike Cup Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Kropp led the field in Friday's 100-yard breaststroke preliminaries, touching at 52.02 to break the previous ACC record of 52.59 set by Zach Stephens of Notre Dame last season. The performance also broke program, meet and facility records and surpassed the NCAA automatic qualifying standard in the event, solidifying him a trip to the NCAA Championship this spring in Iowa City, Iowa. In addition, the 52.02 mark currently ranks second in the country.
A Los Angeles, Calif., native, Kropp returned to the pool Saturday in the 200 breaststroke, clocking 1:56.73 in the event preliminaries for the nation's 11th-fastest time. Kropp also competed on a pair of Blue Devil relays at the Nike Cup Invitational, helping the 400 medley relay post the fifth-fastest mark in program history (3:16.12) and the 200 medley relay record the sixth-fastest time (1:28.60).
Kropp and the Duke swimmers resume competition Saturday, Jan. 10 when they welcome South Carolina and Harvard to Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion.
