INDIVIDUAL NOTES• Senior quarterback
Anthony Boone improved to 17-1 as a starting quarterback in regular-season games.
- Boone's overall record of 17-3 (.850 winning percentage) is best among Duke quarterbacks, just ahead of Worth Lutz's .846 mark.
• Boone's 17 wins as a starting quarterback move him into a tie with Jerry Barger (1951-54/17) for the all-time Duke record.
• Boone completed seven-of-eight passes in the first quarter. In his last two games, Boone has gone 17-for-20 (.850 percent) in the opening quarter.
• Boone finished with 266 passing yards to move ahead of Anthony Dilweg (1985-88/4,557) and into eighth place on the Duke career chart with 4,717 yards. Thaddeus Lewis (2006-09) owns the program record with 10,065 yards.
• Boone's 266 yards gave him his first 200-yard game since week two at Troy (268 yards).
• Boone threw three touchdown passes against Pittsburgh after having two in the previous four games combined.
- Boone finished with three or more touchdown passes for the sixth time in his career, tied for the third most in program history. Dave Brown (1989-91) owns the record with eight such games.
• Senior wide receiver
Jamison Crowder hauled in nine passes for 165 yards. He now has 247 receptions, good for the second most in ACC history and the second most by a Duke player. Former Blue Devil
Conner Vernon (2009-12/283 catches) holds the all-time league and school mark.
• Crowder extended his consecutive games streak with two or more receptions to 36. The mark is the second longest streak among active NCAA receivers, trailing only East Carolina's Justin Hardy, who owns 43 consecutive games with two or more receptions.
• Crowder's 165-yard game was his 14th career contest with 100 or more receiving yards, tied with Vernon for the second most in Duke history. He trails only Clarkston Hines (1986-89/17) for the most career 100-yard receiving games.
• Crowder's two touchdown receptions pushed his career total to 21, tied for the fourth most on the Duke career chart. Hines owns the all-time Blue Devil record with 38 TDs.
- The touchdown was Crowder's first since the season opener against Elon.
• Crowder now owns five games with two or more touchdown receptions, tied for the second most in Duke history. Hines owns the record with 10 such games.
• In Crowder's last two games, he has caught 17 passes for 264 yards after having 10 receptions for 76 yards in the previous two contests.
• Redshirt sophomore safety/kickoff returner
DeVon Edwards returned a fourth-quarter kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. It was Edwards' third career kickoff return for a touchdown, tied with Randy Jones (1990-93) for the most in Duke history.
- All three of Edwards' kickoff returns have been in the month of November.
• Freshman running back
Shaun Wilson gained 43 yards on eight carries for an average of 5.38 yards a rush.
- Wilson entered the game leading all FBS players in yards per carry with 10.32.
• Wilson caught his first career touchdown pass in the first quarter on a 10-yard strike from Boone.
- In Wilson's last four games, he has caught 12 balls for 154 yards.
• Redshirt junior safety
Jeremy Cash recorded 13 tackles. In the last six games, he has tallied seven or more stops in each with five of the six contests reaching double digits.
• Senior linebacker
David Helton tallied a career second-best 18 tackles, including 13 assists.
- Helton has booked 10 or more tackles in the last two games and in five of this year's eight games. It is his ninth career game with double-digit hits.
- He entered the game ranked third among active FBS players in career assisted tackles with 180.
- Helton also began the contest standing third in the ACC in tackles per game this season with 9.90.
• Redshirt senior linebacker
C.J. France booked a career second-best 13 tackles to bring his total in the last two games to 19. In the season's previous six contests, France had just nine stops.
• Junior safety
Dwayne Norman sacked Chad Voytik for a 13-yard loss in the third quarter. It was Norman's second sack of the year and first since the Tulane contest.
• Redshirt freshman safety
Evrett Edwards booked a career-high seven tackles while sophomore corner back
Breon Borders finished with a career second-best six hits.
• Junior kicker
Ross Martin, the Duke career PAT record holder, converted six PATs and has made 95 consecutive PATs, continuing to extend his school record. Will Snyderwine (2009-11) held the previous high for consecutive PATs with 84.
• Martin has scored at least one point in 35 straight games.
• Martin made one field goal in his only attempt to remain perfect this season at 11-for-11.
- Martin entered the game as one of six FBS kickers without a miss in 2014.
- Martin has made at least one field goal in all eight games this season.
• Martin's field goal was the 44th of his career, just two shy of Snyderwine for second on the Duke all-time list.
• Junior punter
Will Monday booted his ninth punt of 50 or more yards in the last five games with a 57-yard blast.
• In the last five games, Monday has also dropped nine punts inside the 20-yard line.
• Senior offensive lineman
Laken Tomlinson started his 47th straight game, tied with four others for the second longest streak among active NCAA FBS linemen, behind only Marshall's Chris Jasperse (48 games).
TEAM NOTES• With the win, Duke improved to 7-1 overall. It is the Blue Devils' best record through seven games since going 7-1 in 1994.
- Since 1940, Duke has started 7-1 just four other times (1994/7-1; 1960/7-1; 1943/7-1; 1941/7-1).
• With the victory, Duke has started three straight years with a 6-2 or better record for the first time since 1933-41.
• Duke won its seventh game of the year to ensure a winning season for the second straight campaign. It is the first time since 1988 (7-3-1) and 1989 (8-4) that Duke has had consecutive winning seasons.
- It is the 25th season with seven or more wins in Duke history, and just the fifth since 1963.
• Duke improved to 3-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. It is the third time (2009, 2012) in seven seasons under head coach
David Cutcliffe that the Blue Devils have been 3-1 or better through the first four league games.
- Duke has won nine ACC games in the last two seasons, equaling the total under Cutcliffe during his first five years.
• Cutcliffe earned the 38th win of his Duke career to break a tie with Mike McGee (1971-78/37) and take over sole possession of third place on the all-time Duke chart. Wallace Wade (1931-41; 1946-50) owns the school mark with 110 triumphs while Bill Murray (1951-65) is second with 93 wins.
• With the win, Duke is 5-0 in its last five November contests. The Blue Devils had been 1-19 in November under Cutcliffe before going 4-0 in November of 2013.
• With the win, Duke improves to 89-36-5 as a ranked team and 3-2 when playing as a ranked foe under Cutcliffe.
• With the victory, Duke has won seven of its last eight true road games. The Blue Devils' 22-10 loss at Miami on Sept. 27 is the only setback during the stretch.
• Duke has outscored opponents 150-89 in the first half of games through the first eight contests.
• By scoring 51 points, the Blue Devils pushed their season total to 286 points. The points are the second most through eight games in program history, behind only 308 in 1953.
• The Blue Devils scored 51 points after entering the game averaging 25.00 points per road game this season.
• Duke was ahead 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. Duke has held the lead at the end of the first quarter in six of eight games played this season.
• Duke tallied 28 points in the first half, its most since scoring 28 against Elon in the first half in the season opener.
• The Blue Devils have scored in 30 of 32 quarters this season. The only two scoreless quarters were the first and fourth at Miami on Sept. 27.
• With two rushing touchdowns, Duke has scored a ground TD in every game this season but one, against Virginia on Oct. 18.
• Duke's offensive line did not allow a sack. In the past six contests, the Blue Devils have yielded just 2.0 sacks.
- The Blue Devils entered the game with the fewest sacks allowed among FBS schools with 4.0.
• The Blue Devils also allowed just 1.0 tackles for lost yardage.
- Duke entered the game with 20 TFL allowed this season, the fewest among FBS programs.
• After committing five turnovers against Tulane and Miami, Duke has not turned the ball over in the last three contests.
- Duke has won or tied the turnover battle in seven of eight contests this season.
- Duke entered the game with a +1.14 turnover margin, the ninth best among FBS schools.
- Duke began the game with five turnovers, tied for the second fewest among FBS programs.
• Duke has allowed just 154 points this season. The total is tied for the fifth fewest allowed through the first eight games since the start of the 1970 campaign.
• With Pittsburgh's 48 points, Duke's string of holding opponents to 30 or fewer points in the regular season was snapped at 14 games.
- The last team to surpass 30 points in the regular season against Duke was Troy with 31 on Sept. 28, 2013.
- The Blue Devils entered the game with the fifth best scoring defense among FBS teams with an average of 15.14 points per game surrendered.
• The Blue Devils surrendered passing touchdowns in consecutive games for the first time this year. Duke has yielded only five aerial TDs.
- Duke entered the game ranked second among FBS teams with three passing touchdowns allowed this year.
• Duke returned five kickoffs for 180 yards (36.00 yards per return) after having just one kickoff return for 20 yards in the last two contests.
