FORT WORTH, TEXAS – The Duke men's golf team concluded the fall season Tuesday with a 12th place finish at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate at Royal Oaks Country Club in Texas. The Blue Devils carded a final round 372 in the six-count-five format event to finish with a +70, 1135.
Oklahoma State claimed the tournament title with a 15-over 1080, one shot better than host Baylor. Oklahoma was third with a 19-over 1084 with Houston (1096) and New Mexico (1099) rounding out the top 5.
Baylor's Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen grabbed medalist honors with a six-under 207 to finish one shot better than Guillermo Pereira (Texas Tech). Oklahoma State's Jordan Niebrugge fired a seven-under 64 Tuesday to charge up the leaderboard and finish third at four-under.
Senior
Turner Southey-Gordon posted a team-best 72 (+1) in the final round to tie for 37th with an 11-over 224. He carded two birdies and 13 pars and was one-under late into the round before closing with back-to-back bogeys to finish at one-over.
Jake Shuman, a freshman out of Massachusetts, also finished tied for 37th for the Blue Devils. He opened the day with a birdie on No. 10 and made the turn at even-par following an eagle on the par 5 18th hole before suffering a pair of bogeys over the final nine holes of play for a two-over 73.
Senior
Michael Ricaurte finished tied for 50th with a 14-over 227 including a 76 Tuesday. The Columbus, Ohio, native recorded a team-best four birdies in the final round but had his scoring hindered by a pair of double-bogeys.
Adam Wood also carded a closing round 76 to finish 56th at 16-over. He made the turn at one-over Tuesday before suffering two bogeys and a double-bogey over his final nine holes of play.
Sophomores
Andrew Bieber and
Alexander Matlari finished tied for 63rd and 71st, respectively. Bieber carded a 78 in the final round, while Matlari bounced back from a rough start Monday to cap the event with a four-over 75.
The Blue Devils resume play in the spring at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational Feb. 28 – March 1 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
