DURHAM, N.C.--The Duke University men's lacrosse team is back in action Saturday, March 10 at No. 9 Loyola. Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with redshirt senior Michael Manley to learn a little more about the defenseman.
GoDuke.com: What do you have DVR'd?
Michael Manley: My show right now is The Walking Dead. Then come April it's The Game of Thrones. We've got the Ax-Men, Swamp People, Mad Men. That's about it.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite movie?
MM: I'm going to go with Dumb and Dumber. I always loved that movie.
GoDuke.com: Pre-game rituals or superstitions?
MM: Yeah, but I can't tell you them. Then they wouldn't be superstitions anymore. I'll tell you, I tie my left cleat first. That's one of them.
GoDuke.com: What's on your bucket list?
MM: I want to go skydiving. We want to climb some really high mountain. We'll start off slow and then go to Mount Everest. Definitely skydiving is up there, probably swimming with some great whites and those squirrel suits, the flying squirrel suits. That's my ultimate. I don't think I'd ever do that, but that's on there.
GoDuke.com: What's the biggest obstacle you've had to overcome?
MM: My knee injury, definitely the triad with the knee injury.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite home cooked meal?
MM: All of them. I can't offend my mother like that. She's an Italian lady so you have to go with her homemade lasagna or just a good ole steak with cheese potatoes. She makes these homemade cheese potatoes that are delicious.
GoDuke.com: Can you cook? If so, what do you cook?
MM: Of course I can cook. Any type of Italian food and then I can mix up some great sides with it as well.
GoDuke.com: What's your favorite class at Duke?
MM: Definitely my class with Dr. [Barry] Gaspar that's all about the Caribbean and pirates. The recent one was Maritime Predation. That was my favorite one.
GoDuke.com: What's your favorite place to study on campus?
MM: It's changed. Originally it started out at the K Center and then we just kind of go to Bostock now.
GoDuke.com: Describe Coach John Danowski in one word.
MM: Intelligent in every aspect, life and game.
GoDuke.com: What was your first car?
MM: A 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix. Dual exhaust and a kind of off green.
GoDuke.com: Who would play you in a movie.
MM: Gerard Butler in 300. The 300 version of Gerard Butler.
GoDuke.com: I wish I knew how to ______.
MM: Play the guitar and be musical.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite restaurant in Durham?
MM: Maggianos or the University Club.
