DURHAM, N.C. - Former Duke All-America Ryan Blaum carded a bogey-free 66 in the final round of the Kandy Waters Memorial Classic on Sunday to claim a one-shot victory at the event. He posted a 70-66-70-66=272 (-16) to claim $28,000 in earnings and his third career Hooters Tour victory. Blaum also won the 2007 Charleston Miracle League Open and 2008 Michelob Ultra Classic.
Blaum, a three-time All-America at Duke, collected seven pars and two birdies on his opening nine in the final round. Two more pars followed the turn before he mounted his charge. Blaum birdied the par 5 12th hole and par 4 13th at Mount Vintage Plantation & Golf Club and added back-to-back birdies on No. 15 (par 3) and No. 16 (par 5) to get to the top of the leaderboard. He tacked on pars on No. 17 and No. 18 to secure the victory.
Brian Harman closed eagle-birdie-par but could not overcome a rocky front nine and finished second with a 15-under 273. Seven players finished tied for third at 14-under.
Blaum finished the tournament with 21 birdies and an eagle. He carded at least five birdies in each round and had just seven bogeys total in 72 holes of play. His 66 in the final round was the second-lowest round of the day.
Blaum has finished in the top 15 of three straight Hooters Tour events and in five of his last seven tournaments. He has collected $49,448 in earnings to rank 16th overall on the money list while playing in just 11 events.
