Taylor Trimble and
Brigid Smith helped guide the U.S. U-19 squad to an unblemished 5-0 record during pool play of the 2011 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship as the team will look to continue that success in the medal round.
Team USA opened the tournament with a 19-5 rout of Japan, then followed that performance with a 13-6 victory over Canada. The United States capped off its perfect run through pool play with victories over Haudenosaunee (15-3), England (16-5) and Australia (20-7).
Trimble has started every contest for Team USA and has totaled eight goals in the tournament, including two against Haudenosaunee and a hat trick versus England. In addition, Smith has chipped in a goal and an assist for the tournament.
The United States, in pursuit of its fourth consecutive U-19 World Championship, faces Scotland Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. (1 p.m. EST) in the quarterfinal round. The winner of Wednesday's contest will face the winner of a match-up between Japan and England in Friday's semifinal action.
