DURHAM, N.C. – Three school records fell this weekend as the Blue Devils attempted to qualify more athletes for the NCAA Indoor Championships at two last chance meets.
First up, Josh Lund became the school record holder in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:09.49. Combined with his 3,000-meter record of 8:08.98, he has solidified himself as one the elite distance runners in Duke track and field history.
Devotia Moore broke the second school record of the weekend in the 800 meters. Her time of 2:06.40 was not only a school record but also the 21st fastest time in the nation this year.
Tanner Anderson was able to break the final record by setting a new collegiate best of 7'2.5” in the high jump. The mark moves him into the 14th spot in the national rankings and strong possibility of qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Anderson joins pole vaulter Amy Fryt as strong contenders for at large bids for the NCAA championships. Moore is also a part of the 10th ranked DMR with freshman Rebecca Craigie, junior Cydney Ross and senior Kate Van Buskirk.
Van Buskirk, along with sophomore Curtis Beach, have already punched their ticket to the championships with automatic qualifying marks in the women's mile run and men's heptathlon.
The final fields will be announced early next week and Duke looks to be in good position to send one its largest contingents in recent years.
