Duke & Radford Face Off in NCAA First Round on Sunday... The third-ranked and No. 1 seeded Duke (17-3-1) women's soccer team will host Radford (15-5-1), the Big South Champions, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 13 at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C., at 2:00 p.m.
The Blue Devils received an at-large No. 1 seed, ensuring home games through the first four rounds of the NCAA Tournament - should Duke advance. There will be a live blog, live video and live stats available for all fans to follow for the Duke/Radford contest.
The winner of Sunday's match will advance to face the winner of Kansas (11-8-1, No. 39 RPI) and Georgia (12-6-2, No. 46 RPI).
The Series With Radford...
Duke and Radford will meet for the fourth time in school history with the Blue Devils leading the overall series, 3-0. Interestingly, the last meeting between schools was in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2008, resulting in a 5-1 Duke victory in Durham, N.C.
A Look a Radford...
Radford enters the match with a 15-5-1 overall mark. The Highlanders are coming off a 1-0 win over Campbell to capture the school's fourth Big South Championship. Sahar Aflaki (9 goals) and Julie Ruh'e (7 goals) lead Radford offensively. Defensively, Radford splits keeper duties between Che' Brown (0.56 GAA and 6 shutouts) and Lisa Lubke (1.10 GAA and 3 shutouts), and as a team averages 0.76 goals against per game. The Highlanders are on a three game win streak and have won five of their last six matches.
Duke in the NCAA Tournament...
By earning a No. 1 seed and at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament, the Blue Devils have reached the big show for the ninth straight season and the 18th time in school history. Duke has won at least one contest in the tournament in eight out of the last nine years. The No. 1 seed is a first for Blue Devil soccer as the previous highest seed for Duke was third in 2008.
The Blue Devils hold an overall record of 21-17 in tournament play, and made it to the Sweet 16 last season, losing 0-2 at Oklahoma State. Duke is three years removed from back-to-back NCAA Elite Eight appearances (2007 and 2008). In 2008, the Blue Devils lost to No. 2 UCLA in the Elite Eight. This year, UCLA is the second seed in Duke's region.
Noting Duke...
- In NCAA Tournament matches played at home, Duke is 5-0. Duke is 10-0-1 at home this season.
- Duke's nine goals allowed on the season is three fewer than the next team (Boston College - 12). The three goals allowed in ACC regular season play was the fewest in the league since North Carolina allowed three in 2003. Duke's two goals allowed against Wake Forest in the last game matched a season high (Texas A&M).
- The Blue Devils snapped a five-game skid of not scoring in the first half with their goal on Oct. 30 against Virginia Tech. The previous first half goal was on Oct. 2 against the Hokies.
- With her tally at NCSU on Oct. 27, Kaitlyn Kerr owns four game-winning goals this season and three against ACC foes (all were 1-0 games).
- Freshman Kelly Cobb leads the ACC with six game-winning goals, tied for 11th nationally.
- The Blue Devils scored three second half goals against Maryland matching a season-high (Texas A&M and Notre Dame). Over the last five matches, Duke has scored seven second half goals.
- Duke will reach 18 wins on the year with its next victory, which would be a new school record for most wins in a season. The school record of 17 took place in 1992, 1994 and 2011.

Scoring in the NCAAs...
Duke boasts only two players who have scored goals in the NCAA Tournament -- Kailtyn Kerr and Laura Weinberg. The duo scored the second and third goals against California last year in the NCAA First Round. Overall, the Blue Devils have registered only two goals over the last four NCAA Tournament contests, while being shutout in three matches.
DeCesare Nets Honors...
Redshirt sophomore Kim DeCesare earned ACC All-Tournament honors following the completion of the ACC Championship. The midfielder scored Duke's lone goal against the Demon Deacons as she attempted five shots - four on goal. Over the last two contests, DeCesare has fired nine shots.
Blue Devils Dominate ACC Honors...
Duke's Natasha Anasi was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year, while Head Coach Robbie Church wasselected ACC Coach of the Year when the All-ACC honors were released on Nov. 2. Along with the top honors, the Blue Devils led all schools with six All-ACC selections -- Anasi and Kaitlyn Kerr to the first team, while Kelly Cobb, Laura Weinberg, Mollie Pathman and Tara Campbell were named to the second team.
