Connette Second Rushing Touchdown
True freshman Brandon Connette had a 10-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter for his second rushing touchdown of the season. The play was Connette's first snap of the game. Seven of Duke's eight plays on the drive were rush attempts totaling 69 yards.
Long Touchdown Pass To Vernon
Redshirt sophomore Sean Renfree completed a 58-yard touchdown pass to Connor Vernon to start the fourth quarter. It is the third touchdown catch of 50 or more yards for Vernon this season and the fourth overall play of 50+ yards for the Blue Devils. Vernon now has three touchdown grabs this year and six in his career.
Renfree Throws For Two Scores
Renfree has thrown two or more touchdown passes in three of the four games this season and in four career games after throwing for two scores against Army. He has four touchdown passes in his two career games against the Black Knights.
Big Fourth Quarter For Renfree & Duke Offense
The Blue Devils tallied 194 yards of total offense in the fourth quarter after posting 178 yards in the first three periods. All 194 yards came through the air as Renfree notched 194 of his 261 passing yards in the final quarter. He was 8-of-13 with two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter.
Vernon 100-Yard Game
Vernon tallied his third 100-yard game of the season and sixth of his career with 129 yards on eight catches. Vernon is now tied for third all-time at Duke with the six career 100-yard games. Vernon has caught eight or more passes in three of the four games this season and four of the last five dating back to last season.
Braxton Records First Career Touchdown
True freshman Brandon Braxton caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Renfree in the fourth quarter for his first career score. Braxton has two catches for 24 yards on the year.
Double Digit Tackles
Senior linebacker Abraham Kromah recorded his first career game with 10 or more tackles and he did it in the first half with 13 stops, including 1.5 for loss. His previous best was nine tackles against Richmond last year and Wake Forest earlier this season. Kromah finished the game with 13 tackles, including 1.5 for loss.
Brown Comes Off Bench With 10 Tackles
For the second straight game, true freshman linebacker Kelby Brown came off the bench with a good performance. He finished with 10 tackles, including six solo stops and one for a loss against Army. Last week he had four tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one fumble recovery on just 19 snaps.
Career Highs For Canty and Gamble
Sophomores Walt Canty and Austin Gamble each recorded career highs in tackles. Canty tallied eight tackles to pass his previous best of five set last week against Alabama. Gamble doubled his previous high with eight tackles in the game.
Sarmiento Blocks Field Goal
Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Sydney Sarmiento blocked a field goal attempt in the first quarter. It is the sixth blocked kick for the Blue Devils in the 28 games under Cutcliffe.
Duke Still Perfect In Red Zone
The Blue Devils have scored points on all 13 trips to the red zone this season. Duke was 1-for-1 in the red zone against Army with a 10-yard touchdown run by Connette. In the 13 trips to the red zone, the Blue Devils have nine touchdowns and four field goals.
