DURHAM, N.C.-Duke University senior Reka Zsilinszka registered a 6-2, 6-4 straight-set victory today take home the title in Section B of the Duke Fab Four Invite held at the Cary Tennis Park. The No. 2 seed in the bracket, Zsilinszka dropped just a single set all weekend.
Ranked 25th nationally, Zsilinszka defeated top-seeded and 15th-ranked Aeriel Ellis of Texas, 6-2, 6-4 to earn top honors. The native of Fayetteville, N.C., cruised through to the championship match, losing just one set in the opening match. In the final three matches of the tournament Zsilinszka lost just a 13 games.
Also earning spots in title tilts were sophomore Mary Clayton in Section A and senior Ellah Nze in Section C. Clayton fell to North Carolina's Zoe De Bruycker 6-2, 6-2, while No. 2 seed Nze lost to the top seeded Kristi Box of Mississippi in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Junior Monica Gorny won the consolation final, defeating Anna Dushkina of Purdue 6-2, 7-5. Gorny finished the weekend with a 3-1 record. Senior Elizabeth Plotkin grabbed third-place honors as she outlasted Caroline Larsson of Texas, 7 -5, 6-1.
The Blue Devils will take a couple of weeks off of competition before heading to the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship from Oct. 2-10.
