DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University Vice President and Director of Athletics Kevin White announced on Thursday the promotion of Gerald Harrison to Associate Director of Athletics for Human Resources. Harrison, who joined the staff in January of 2008, had previously served as Assistant Director of Athletics for Human Resources.
"Gerald plays a very significant role within the department," White said. "Simply stated, leading and managing the human resources dimension of intercollegiate athletics represents a critical element of the overall success of the athletics department."
In his role, Harrison manages the Duke Athletic Department's human resource operation while overseeing the strength and conditioning, athletic training and equipment groups. In addition, he continues to assist head coach David Cutcliffe with the overall development of the Blue Devil gridiron program.
Harrison spent the 2008 football season as an Assistant Director of Athletics for Football Development.
Harrison spent six years on the football staff at the University of Tennessee, serving as Director of Community Relations (2002-04) and Director of High School Relations (2005-07). During Harrison's tenure, the Volunteers won 52 games with three 10-win seasons, five bowl game appearances and a pair of SEC Eastern Division championships.
A native of Florence, S.C., Harrison graduated from Tennessee in 2001 with a degree in communications. He is a member of the American Football Coach Association, the Black Coaches and Administrators Association and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
