DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke women's lacrosse team (13-5, 2-3 ACC) has received the No. 7 seed for the upcoming 2010 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championships as announced by the selection committee Sunday, May 9. The Blue Devils, making their 13th consecutive appearance in the tournament, will play host to Vanderbilt (12-5, 4-1 ALC) at Koskinen Stadium Sunday, May 16 at 2 p.m.
ACC-rival Maryland earned the top seed in the 16-team field, edging five-time defending national champion Northwestern, which garnered the No. 2 seed. North Carolina received the three seed, Georgetown the four, James Madison the five and Virginia the six.
This season marks Duke's 13th consecutive trip to the tournament as the program is 13-12 all-time in NCAA action. Last season, Duke advanced to the second round with a 15-13 win over Virginia, before falling to fourth-seeded Pennsylvania, 10-9 on May 16.
The Blue Devils are 1-0 when facing Vanderbilt in the NCAA Tournament, defeating the Commodores 10-5 in the first round of the 2002 championships. Overall, Duke holds a 13-3 advantage in the series after the Blue Devils downed Vanderbilt 19-10 in Nashville on Feb. 14.
The winner of the Duke-Vanderbilt game will face the winner of Northwestern-Notre Dame in the second round. The semifinal and final rounds of this year's tournament are set for May 28 and may 30 at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md.
