Blue Devils Lead Liz Murphey Classic After Two Rounds

ATHENS, Ga. - Duke leads the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course after two rounds with a team score of 600 (+24), 11 strokes ahead of the second place Auburn Tigers (609). Blue Devil freshman Lindy Duncan remained atop the individual leaderboard with rounds of 70-72=142 (-2).

"I would call today another grinder," said Duke Head Coach Dan Brooks. "We had people really working their short games -- a lot of up and downs."

Duncan played even-par golf in her second round and capped off her day with a birdie on the par-5 18th hole. The native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., is the only individual player to be under-par after two rounds and holds a five-stroke lead with 18 holes remaining. She is going for her first individual victory of her career.

"She has been really smart," said Brooks. "Lindy put her range finder away on the first day. Instead of shooting the distance at the flag, she is thinking more about the green and hitting for the heart of the green. That gets her on the surface and she ends up doing a lot more putting than everyone else."

Kim Donovan and Stacey Kim also join Duncan in the top 10 of the individual leaderboard with one round to play. Donovan, a native of Hopkinton, Mass., posted rounds of 75-76=151 (+7) to sit in a tie for seventh. Kim, playing in her home state of Georgia, also is tied for seventh with rounds of 76-75=151 (+7). Duke is the only team in the field to have three individuals in the top 10 after two days.

Courtney Ellenbogen, currently tied for 26th, recorded rounds of 79-77=156 (+12). The freshman from Blacksburg, Va., had three birdies in her second round. Senior Alison Whitaker is tied for 61st with rounds of 82-79=161 (+17).

As a team, Duke has notched rounds of 300 on both days to registered a 36-hole total of 600. Rounding out the top 10 teams are Auburn (609), North Carolina (614), Arkansas (615), Alabama (618), Wake Forest (620), Michigan State (612), Purdue (625), Ohio State (626) and Georgia State (627).

"They [the team] have obviously been doing what is necessary on this golf course -- everybody is chipping and putting," said Brooks. "They have been doing better at it than everybody else so we are just going to keep doing that same thing. Just go into it with the idea it doesn't matter where your ball winds up -- obviously you want to be on the green, but if it is not then get it up and down and they have been doing it."
