BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Duke University men's and women's track & field teams returned to action Friday, Feb. 19, competing at the Virginia Tech Classic in Blacksburg, Va.
The day's results were highlighted by senior Patrick Tenbrink's personal-best 4.95m (16-02.75) in the men's college unseeded pole vault. Tenbrink took first in the event while also qualifying for the IC4A's. His mark is the best by a Blue Devil this season, the sixth best in the ACC in 2010 and the sixth highest in Duke school history.
Also qualifying for the IC4A's were sophomores Stephen Clark and Brendon Pierson in the men's 1,000m run. Clark finished eighth overall in 2:28.55, while Pierson posted a 2:29.52, good for 13th place.
Action continues tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 20 with day two of the Virginia Tech Classic. Saturday's events will begin at 11 a.m. with the men's high jump and conclude at 4:30 p.m. with the men's 4x400m relay.
