DURHAM, N.C. - Throughout the fall semester, senior Christie Kaestner will send blog updates to GoDuke.com, giving fans inside access to the Duke women's lacrosse team. Read her tenth post below for the inside scoop as the team prepares for the end of the semester.
Merry Christmas (or should I say, Happy Hanukkah),
It has been a crazy week since we returned from Thanksgiving, and we had a fabulous break. We had some great stories such as Amanda Jones' injury laden family football game (her cousin, not her, don't panic). I did eat peas in my mashed potatoes as I'm sure so many of you were wondering, and shout out to all my family members (Aunt Karen, Uncle Bob, Uncle Peter) who are reading my blog - I feel so lucky that so many people are following not just myself but Duke Lax! We came back to Durham somewhat rested but slammed with work to finish up for the semester.
On the field we had a busy week of run testing, a few more practices, and tough lifts. Howser says we were incredible this week and kicked butt on the run tests. I'm thinking this is a common theme and I'm also thinking it's gonna spill over into the season … stay tuned. We have gotten much better this fall and I'm thrilled to say we are in a terrific place going into winter break and the coming season. Emma Hamm, ladies and gentlemen, has officially been cleared to play and even though I chance her killing me, I'm just saying she's unreal. I tried to bribe Ker to put her on my team for 6v6 during practice, but she wouldn't have it. Oh well.
Off the field, tis the season to be stressed, but tis also the season for Christmas parties! We had our first shindig last night with tacky sweaters, some lovely Santa denim, and an awful lot of merry singing to classic holiday songs - you know, Mariah Carey, 'NSYNC, and Wham. Fortunately everyone is on board with Santa being real as we've known all along, and the decorations throughout Partners Place Apartments are simply divine. My siblings and I have sent our Christmas lists to our mother, some highlights being Johnny wanting a Victoria Secret angel (Adriana Lima to be exact), Ashby wanting a lifetime supply of crab dip, and me wanting another several years of college. We'll see if mom has enough pull with the big man at the North Pole to make it happen.
On another note, we are getting our butts kicked by papers, exams, and projects. Kat Thomas and Bridget Nolan win an award for getting kicked out of the library on west … I didn't even know the library closed, I thought it was twenty four hours. Makenzie Hommel and I are creating a booklet for pregame eating advice for our end of the year project, and Emma, Sarah, and I did a great job distracting Molly Quirke in the library today. She'll learn not to sit near us anymore!
Mr. Wenger is here this weekend and he cooked our entire building burgers and hot dogs as we grilled in the snow! It has been a phenomenal weekend and week and we are so lucky to have Christmas (and Hanukkah, love you Mollie), to get us through these busy weeks. Tis the season to love each other!
Love, Lax, attempts at snow angels, and chocolate advent calendars,
