Walk-on Plays For First TimeSophomore walk-on
Greg DeLuca made his collegiate debut against Maryland, playing on special teams. DeLuca was on the field for the opening kickoff for his first collegiate snap and also played on the punt return and kickoff return units.
Defensive ImprovementThe Duke defense held Maryland to 294 yards of total offense, the lowest total by an opponent since Virginia had 196 yards (89 rush & 107 pass) on Oct. 31, 2009. The 21 points allowed were the lowest total in 2010.
300-Yard GameRedshirt sophomore quarterback
Sean Renfree passed for over 350 yards for the third time this season, completing 28-of-56 passes for 351 yards and one touchdown. The three 300-yard games ranks tied for sixth most in a single season at Duke with four other players.
Renfree In Fourth QuarterRenfree completed 11-of-23 passes for 141 yards and one touchdown in the fourth quarter. His 23 attempts are tied for the fourth most in a single quarter in school history while his 56 attempts in a game are tied for fifth. In the last two games, Renfree has completed 19-of-36 pass attempts for 335 yards and three touchdowns in the final quarter of play.
Renfree Extends Touchdown Streak With his two-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, Renfree has thrown a touchdown pass in all five games this season.
King Catches Touchdown PassRedshirt senior tight end
Brandon King hauled in a two-yard touchdown catch for his second of the season and seventh of his career. He moves into a tie with Bill Khayat and Andy Roland for third on Duke's career touchdowns list by tight ends.
Varner Goes Over 100 YardsJunior wide receiver
Donovan Varner finished the game with eight catches for 128 yards. It is the second 100-yard game of the season for Varner and seventh of his career. He had 123 yards against Elon in the season opener. He caught a 37-yard pass on fourth down and 19 to go in the fourth quarter. His seven career 100-yard games ranks third on Duke's career list. He has recorded over 100 yards in each of his two career games against Maryland with 120 last season.
Vernon One Yard Shy of 100 YardsThe ACC's leading wide receiver sophomore Connor Vernon had six catches for 99 yards. He had tallied over 100 receiving yards in three of the first four games and fell one yard shy of his fourth 100-yard performance of the season.
Varner Hits 1,500 Career YardsDuke's trio of
Austin Kelly, Varner and Vernon combined for 20 receptions for 287 yards on Saturday. The three wideouts climbed up Duke's career receiving lists. Varner became the 12th player in school history with 1,500 career receiving yards, moving into 10th all-time with 1,597 career yards. Vernon moved up to 22nd on the career list with 1,294 yards while Kelly is 25th with 1,222 yards.
First Catch of Season For TrezvantRedshirt junior wide receiver
Josh Trezvant caught a 25-yard pass on third down and 10 for his first catch of the season and fourth of his career.
Career-High 15 TacklesRedshirt senior linebacker
Abraham Kromah recorded a career-high 15 tackles against Maryland. He has had 10 or more tackles in back-to-back games. Kromah notched 15 tackles with two for loss on Saturday after posting 13 stops, including 1.5 for loss against Army last week.
Snyderwine Makes Three Field GoalsRedshirt junior kicker
Will Snyderwine made field goals of 20, 40 and 34 yards to give him seven consecutive made field goals. Snyderwine has made 9-of-10 (.900) field goal attempts on the season and is 26-of-30 (.867) in his career. He has now made two or more field goals in four of the five games this season and in eight career games. He has four career games with three or more.
Blue Devils End Streak Of Red Zone ConversionsDuke converted its first 16 trips inside the red zone this season before Renfree threw an interception at the goal line in the second quarter. The Blue Devils were 13-of-13 entering the game and 3-of-3 to start the game.
