DURHAM, N.C. – Kellie Catanach posted her team-leading sixth double-double of the season and dished out 46 assists to lead Duke past Boston College 3-1 (25-12, 22-25, 25-11, 25-14) on Saturday evening in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Catanach filled up the stat sheet, delivering 10 digs, five kills, a .500 hitting percentage, three service aces and two blocks as Duke (13-2, 5-0 ACC) won its 11th straight ACC match since 2009. Under Catanach's direction, Duke hit .351 against Boston College (8-10, 0-5 ACC) with
Sophia Dunworth (14),
Amanda Robertson (11) and
Becci Burling (10) all posting double-digit kills.
Robertson went 11-for-17 for a .529 hitting percentage while Burling (.409) and sophomore
Christiana Gray (.429) also hit over .400 for the match. Duke had only 13 attack errors while forcing Boston College into 25 errors. The Eagles, who entered the match ranked second in the ACC in service aces, managed only four aces against Duke.
Led by 16 digs from senior
Claire Smalzer and five blocks from Burling, Duke's defense held Boston College to a .109 hitting percentage. Smalzer posted double-digit digs for the fourth straight match and now sits at fifth all-time on Duke's career list with 1,372 assists.
The Blue Devils opened the match by connecting on eight of their first nine attacks to spark a 25-12 first-set win. Duke would hit .519 for the set with 15 kills and only one attack error. Catanach picked up 14 assists on only 18 sets while Dunworth turned in five kills and Smalzer and Gray both went 3-for-4.
Boston College fought back, however, and turned the tables by hitting .361 to win set two 25-22. Tsvetelina Dureva led the way with seven kills and a .700 hitting percentage while the Eagles posted four blocks. Melissa McTighe worked her way in on all four of those stops to help hold Duke to a .278 clip.
Megan Hendrickson came off the bench for Duke and contributed two kills, an ace and a dig while Burling went 5-for-6 attacking, but the Eagles fought off a late Duke rally to even the match.
Duke bounced right back and took set three 25-11 thanks to a 9-1 closing run that did not include a single Duke error. Libero

Nailah Waterfield both served five straight points during the rally and combined for 15 errorless serves for the game. Duke hit .429 with no attack errors during the win with Burling leading the group with four kills.
Boston College appeared to turn the tables once more in game four after staking a 13-7 lead, but Duke put together its biggest rally of the night to win the game 25-14. After the break, Duke came out and scored 12 straight points to go ahead 18-13 and then closed out the 18-1 run by scoring seven more, ending with four straight kills from Dunworth, Catanach and Gray.
Duke will continue its four-match homestand on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 8-9, with bouts against North Carolina and N.C. State in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Both in-state showdowns will begin at 7 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
