Moment in History: 41-0 Shutout of North Carolina

DURHAM, N.C. – This fall marks the 20th anniversary of Duke Football's 41-0 shutout of arch rival North Carolina to earn a share of the ACC Title and a trip to the All-America Bowl. In his third and final year at Duke, then head coach Steve Spurrier led the team to a record of 8-4 overall and 6-1 in ACC play. Clarkston Hines still holds Duke's all-time record for season points, scoring 104 points in 1989. Against North Carolina, Dave Brown turned in a monument performance, throwing for 479 yards and setting Duke's single-game passing record.
The 1989 Blue Devil ACC Championship football team will be honored between the first and second quarters of this Saturday's game against N.C. Central. Former Duke and current South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier and ACC Player of the Year Clarkston Hines are among those scheduled to be in attendance on Saturday to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Duke's 1989 ACC Championship.
