DURHAM, N.C. - With a 15-6 overall record and seven victories over ranked opponents, the Duke women's lacrosse team reached its 12th straight NCAA Championships and fifth ACC title game in 2009. The squad advanced to the Elite Eight with a first-round overtime win at home over ACC foe Virginia ? the team's second victory over the Cavaliers for the season.
After starting out with a preseason ranking of No. 3, the Blue Devils finished with a final nod of No. 5 in both the IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse polls ? never dropping below No. 5 throughout the year. Four Duke players were honored as All-Americas by one of the three main organizations to hand out the award, while five team members were named All-South Region and three All-ACC. Carolyn Davis ? who leaves Duke as the second-leading scorer in program history with 193 career goals ? was one of five 2009 Tewaaraton Trophy finalists as three Duke players made it as nominees and four were included on the watch list to start the season.

Duke broke the team school record for goals (313), assists (150), and points (463) in 2009. The team finished the 2009 season outscoring the opposition by a count of 313-196, while three players ? Davis (59), Lindsay Gilbride (59), and Caroline Cryer (45) eclipsed the 40-goal mark on the year.
All-Time Duke Marks
In addition to Davis, Cryer also broke into the record book at Duke with 169 career goals, which ranks third in Blue Devil history. Cryer now sits third in career points with 250, while Davis is fourth with 247. Cryer's 81 career assists stand for No. 2 all-time at Duke, while keeper Kim Imbesi's 467 career saves rank third in a Blue Devil uniform.

Duke Foursome Tabbed IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-Americas
Duke women's lacrosse seniors and Tewaaraton Trophy nominees Carolyn Davis and Caroline Cryer were selected by the IWLCA and US Lacrosse as first team All-Americas, it was announced. Teammate Sarah Bullard made the second team, while Lindsay Gilbride was a third team pick. The four selections matches last year's total and are tied for second-most among any team for 2009. Notre Dame and North Carolina also had four selections, while the ACC champion Maryland Terrapins led all teams with five players. A total of 48 players from 18 teams were recognized.

Five Blue Devils Named All-South Region
Five members of the Duke women's lacrosse team picked up honors by the IWLCA/US Lacrosse as All-South Region selections for their play in 2009. Seniors Caroline Cryer and Carolyn Davis and sophomore Sarah Bullard received first team honors, while juniors Lindsay Gilbride and Danielle Kachulis were named to the second team. In all, 128 student-athletes were chosen for the four regional teams. Within the south region, 20 of the 30 selections on both the first and second teams were members of the Atlantic Coast Conference, with Duke making up five of those spots.
