PRAGUE, Czech Republic ? Former Duke goalkeeper Megan Huether came off the bench to spearhead a United States defense that blanked Australia in the second half as the Americans rallied past the defending world champions, 10-9, in 2009 Federation of International Lacrosse Women's World Cup action in Prague, Czech Republic on Monday.
The U.S. trailed at intermission, 9-4, when head coach Sue Heether inserted Huether into the contest. She responded with six saves against zero goals allowed in her 30 minutes of playing time. Former Blue Devil star Caroline Cryer fed Sarah Albrecht for the game-winning goal late in the second half. Cryer finished the game with one goal and two assists while former Duke standout Katie Chrest contributed one assist.
With the victory, the U.S. improves to 4-0 in the event and earns the number one seed in the upcoming tournament. The Americans will play on Wednesday at 10 a.m. (ET) against the winner of Ireland and the Czech Republic.
