DURHAM, N.C. ? Three regular decision student-athletes have signed to row for the Duke rowing team beginning in the fall of 2009, Duke head coach Robyn Horner announced Tuesday.
All three of the regular decision recruits are coxswains.
“Our program is aggressively building in numbers, so we needed to bring in talented coxswains that want to build our team,” Horner said.
The new additions include Ashleigh Anne McKinney from Augusta Junior Rowing Club, Emi Marchetti from Bay View HS and Naragenset Rowing Club, and Justine Hong from Pacific Rowing Club.
The three new recruits will join the regular decision class which includes Sarah Baker (Fairport High School ? N.Y./ Fairport Crew Club), Shaye Bastien (Corona del Mar High School ? Calif./ Newport Aquatic Center), Katie Burke (Hillsborough High School ? Fla./Julijana Englander (Newton North High School ? Mass./Community Rowing Inc), Lauren Jadovich (Miss Porter's School ? Conn.)
“Each of these coxswains has the ability to take charge of a boat and help it move forward,” Horner said. “We're looking for leadership in our coxswains, and I am confident that these young women are more than capable of supplying it.”
Recruiting Coordinator Jim Lister stated that he is “excited to work closely with our new coxswains to elevate our program to the next level. The coxswains joining our team have all contributed greatly to their own programs success, and we look forward to their leadership”.
