CARY, N.C. ? All 28 members of the Duke baseball team spent their Saturday afternoon volunteering at the Miracle League of the Triangle where they helped nearly 100 special needs children participate in baseball games at Adams Elementary School.

On their only off weekend of the season, the Blue Devils served as a “buddies” to the children who took part in the Miracle League, which is a non-profit organization that allows special needs children to play America's favorite pastime ? baseball. The children play on a special field where they get the opportunity to bat off a tee, round the bases and play in the field. Duke baseball players helped the children complete all of those tasks to the tune music, a PA announcer and an ecstatic crowd.
The Miracle League was started in 1997 by the Rockdale Youth Baseball Association (RYBA) and has since expanded across the country. The Miracle League of The Triangle had its opening day on Sept. 16, 2006, and has grown to include 200 children, 500 volunteers and 18 teams. The primary goals of the Miracle League include providing opportunities to all children with special needs to play baseball, regardless of their abilities, and to increase community awareness and support for those children.
