DURHAM, N.C. ? Caroline Cryer recently sat down with GoDuke.com for her senior profile. A native of Centennial, Colo., Cryer is a two-time All-ACC selection and a first team All-America. She finished the 2009 season leading the Blue Devils in assists (38) and points (83). Cryer discusses her nickname, her love of Denver sports teams, the hidden-ball trick, plus much more.
GoDuke.com: What is your nickname?
Caroline Cryer: Whitey...for my blinding white thighs.
GD: What do you have in your iPod before a game?
CC: Right now I have “I'll Run” by The Cab.
GD: Why do you your number?
CC: Both my brothers were born on the 13th. We like to think of 13 as a lucky number in my family.
GD: What is your favorite professional team?
CC: All my hometown teams! Broncos, Nuggets, Avs, Rockies.
GD: What is your favorite movie?
CC: Prefontaine or Rudy
GD: What's your favorite movie you've seen recently?
CC: I just saw Slumdog Millionaire and loved it.
GD: What's your favorite TV show?
CC: The Office, ESPN top ten, Friday Night Lights, and anything on Food Network.
GD: Describe your SportsCenter moment.
CC: Throwing a BTB (behind the back) or ATW (around the world) shot for the game winner.
GD: What's your favorite food?
CC: Soft, home-baked oatmeal dark choc chip cookies.
GD: Do you have any pregame rituals?
CC: Eat a lot of dessert the night before.
GD: What are you planning on doing after graduation?
CC: Going to Prague for the Lacrosse World Cup in June.
GD: What would your dream job be?
CC: Being the head Honcho of Nike.
GD: Think 10 years down the road, what will you be doing?
CC: Having a blast in Colorado, be married to a redhead, and have lots of little redheaded children running around, and teaching them how to ski!
GD: Who's had the most impact on your athletic career and why?
CC: My mom. She coached me when I was younger in soccer and lacrosse. She has been so supportive and always gives me things to think about or ways I can improve to be the best I can be.
GD: What's your favorite memory to date of your college career?
CC: The first hidden ball trick Katie Chrest and I ever did in the semi-finals of the ACC tourney vs. UNC. It resulted in a sweet goal.
GD: Who was your childhood hero?
CC: Michael Jordan and Mia Hamm
GD: What's your favorite sport, other than your own, to watch on TV?
CC: Men's College Basketball
GD: What is your advice to children?
CC: Never underestimate yourself.
GD: What's the best concert you've ever attended?
CC: Mile High Music Festival (two-full days of endless concerts). Colbie Caillat, John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band, OAR, Tom Petty, OneRepublic.
GD: What do you do in your free time?
CC: Golf! I have just gotten into it and love it.
