PRINCETON, N.J. ? Sophomore distance standout Christy Adamyk won the 10,000-meter run, while sophomore Ryan McDermott and senior Patricia Loughlin turned in record-breaking performances in the steeplechase during day one of the 2009 IC4A & ECAC Championships, respectively, Friday evening at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium.
Adamyk completed the 10K in 35:57.79, a 10 second improvement from her time at the ACC Championships earlier this outdoor season, to win the race by over 30 seconds.
Loughlin turned in a second-place finish in the ECAC steeplechase, clocking 10:09.77 which was a 14-second lifetime best, second all-time at Duke, and an NCAA Regional mark. It also qualified the senior for the USATF Senior Nationals in Eugene, Ore., June 25-28.
In the IC4A steeple, McDermott improved his personal best by four seconds to remain the second-best all-time performer in school history with an NCAA Regional finish of 8:52.36 to place him in fifth.
Freshman Carly Seymour took eighth in the 5K in 17:02.26, missing the regional qualifier by just 10 seconds as she logged a 17-second PR there. Sophomore Bo Waggoner placed 15th in the men's 5K, running a five-second PR of 14:19.20.
All of today's top-eight finishers ? Adamyk, Loughlin, McDermott, and Seymour ? earned All-East honors.
After day one in Princeton, the Duke women have 19 points while the men have racked up four.
The Blue Devil highlights for day two will include ACC champion Amy Fryt in the pole vault, regional qualifiers Cory Nanni and Molly Lehman in the 1,500m races, and both Duke 4x800m relays who will be attempting to move on to Sunday's finals.
