DURHAM, N.C. ? Duke junior Lindsay Gilbride, who netted the game-winner in Duke's 15-13 first-round overtime win over Virginia on Sunday, was named the WomensLax.com Player of the Week, the organization announced. It was the second such honor of the season for Gilbride, who also received weekly accolades on March 30.
Gilbride converted on a free position chance with just 28 seconds remaining in the first 3:00 extra period Sunday, giving Duke a 14-13 edge that it would not relinquish. Gilbride finished with four goals and two assists in the game. On the season she has tallied 55 goals and 16 assists for 71 points, starting all 20 games.
The win over Virginia was Duke's second of the season and first in the NCAA Championships.
The Blue Devils will advance to face the No. 4 seed, the University of Pennsylvania, next Sat., May 16, at Drexel University's Vidas Field in Philadelphia. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
