DURHAM, N.C.-Riding a five-match win streak, the 11th-ranked Duke University men's soccer team will close out regular season play at No. 4 Wake Forest on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. The Blue Devils remain in the hunt for the regular season ACC title heading into the contest with the Demon Deacons.
A win by the Blue Devils coupled with a loss or a tie by North Carolina would give Duke at least a share of the ACC title. The final seedings for the upcoming ACC Tournament will be determined following Saturday night's game between Virginia and NC State. The official bracket will be announced on Nov. 8.
Duke and Wake Forest are meeting for the 39th time with the Blue Devils holding a 21-12-5 advantage. The two squads battled to a 0-0 tie in Winston-Salem in 2008, while the Demon Deacons won in 2007. The Blue Devils' last win over Wake Forest was in the ACC Tournament in 2006.
Duke travels to Winston-Salem with a 12-4-0 overall record and a 4-3-0 mark in ACC action. The Blue Devils have outscored their opponents 18-2 in the past five games with the last loss coming against NC State on Oct. 9.
Headlining the Duke offense is the dynamic duo of junior Cole Grossman and freshman Ryan Finley with 24 and 22 points, respectively. Grossman's 24 points is tied for tops in the league, while his 10 assists are second. Finley's team-leading tallies are second in the ACC.
Freshman goalie James Belshaw anchors the defense that has allowed just two goals in the past 450 minutes. He is 10-4-0 on the year and sports a 0.99 goals against average and a .750 save percentage with three shutouts.
Wake Forest enters its final regular season contest with a 12-3-2 overall record and 4-2-1 mark in ACC competition. The Demon Deacons are coming off a 2-1 win over Elon after suffering a setback against Boston College. Zack Schilawski leads the squad with 24 points from 10 goals and four assists, while Austin da Luz has 19 points. In goal, Akira Fitzgerald has a 0.73 goals against average and a .838 save percentage.
