DURHAM, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) office released the 2009 All-ACC first, second, third and All-Freshman teams on Tuesday with three Blue Devils earning accolades. Senior Elisabeth Redmond received first team honors, while senior KayAnne Gummersall and freshman Tara Campbell were named to the second team. Campbell was also selected to the All-ACC Freshman team by a vote of the league's head coaches.
For the third straight year, Redmond received All-ACC honors including two consecutive seasons on the first team. She becomes only the 11th player in school history to be named either first or second team All-ACC three times. On the season, Redmond leads the ACC and ranks fifth nationally in assists per game with a 0.67 per game average. She has notched 12 assists in 18 games to go along with three goals and 18 points. A native of Morristown, N.J., Redmond's two game-winning goals also rank tied for first on the Blue Devil squad.
In the ACC stats, Redmond ranks third in shots (74), fourth in shots per game (4.11), first in assists (12) and first in assists per game (0.67). Over her career, Redmond has accumulated 35 assists, 26 goals and 87 points. She ranks second in assists, seventh in goals and fourth in points on the Duke career charts. Redmond's 14 game-winning goals also ranks third on the Blue Devil list.
Redmond has earned ACC Co-Player of the Week, CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer, Duke/Nike Classic All-Tournament team and was on the preseason watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is given to the National Player of the Year, so far on the season.
Gummersall, who is from Wilmette, Ill., received All-ACC honors for the second straight year, after earning first team distinction as a junior. In her final year with the Blue Devils, Gummersall leads the team with 11 goals and 26 points, while also posting four assists and two game-winning tallies. She tallied her first career hat trick in a 4-1 victory over 13th-ranked Virginia Tech on senior day.
A true goal-scorer, Gummersall currently ranks 44th in the nation in goals per game (0.579) and 60th in points per game (1.37). She also ranks tied for fourth in the ACC in goals (11), fifth in goals per game (0.58), sixth in points (26), sixth in points per game (1.37) and ninth in shots (53).
In her four years with the Blue Devils, she has accumulated 34 goals to rank fourth all-time in the Duke record books, while her 79 points is fifth. Gummersall's 11 game-winning goals also ranks fourth.
Gummersall has earned ACC Co-Player of the Week, Soccer America National Team of the Week and is a two-time CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer so far this season.
One of only three goalkeepers named to the All-ACC team, Campbell has stepped in for Duke in her first year and notched six shutouts, a 0.97 goals-against average and 83 saves. She has started 17 of 19 matches in the net. Campbell has held fifth-ranked Florida State and ninth-ranked Wake Forest to zero goals, while also holding sixth-ranked Boston College and 13th-ranked Virginia Tech to only one tally. Campbell is one of four freshmen starting in the back for the Blue Devils in 2009.
Campbell's All-ACC honor as a freshman marks only the 10th time in school history that a Blue Devil freshman has been selected to the All-ACC first or second team and the first since 2001.
In the NCAA stats, Campbell ranks 68th in save percentage (0.83) and 95th in goals-against average. Campbell's 83 saves on the season ranks tied for sixth on the Duke single-season record chart and is 10 away from matching the record of 93 held by Thora Helgadottir and Melissa Carr.
Campbell has received Soccer America National Team of the week honors along with being named to the Duke/Nike All-Tournament team.
