Bienenfeld Named to Academic All-America 1st Team

DURHAM, N.C.-Duke University senior Josh Bienenfeld has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Men's Soccer Academic All-America first team for the second consecutive season. Bienenfeld was one of two athletes from the ACC honored with the award.
Bienenfeld became the first Duke men's soccer player to earn Academic All-America first team recognition last season and is the first Blue Devil in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America praise twice in his career.
A psychology major, Bienenfeld is a three-year starter for the Blue Devils. As a senior this season, he led Duke to a 12-6-0 record and a berth in the 2009 NCAA Men's Soccer College Cup, the school's 23rd overall appearance and sixth-straight. Bienenfeld started 17 games this season, registering one goal and one assist for three points.
A native of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., Bienenfeld serves as the Blue Devils' team captain this season. In 2006, he was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman team, and was also honored as the team's Most Valuable Player as a freshman. Bienenfeld ranks in the top one percent of his class.
The Blue Devils host Winthrop in the NCAA Tournament first round on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.
