PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.-Duke University duo Ellah Nze and Reka Zsilinszka returned to the courts in singles action today in the main draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship today. Nze and Zsilinszka also played in the consolation doubles round of the qualifying section.
The Blue Devil tandem started the day losing to Michigan's pair of Whitney Taney and Rika Tatsuno 8-6 in the doubles consolation bracket of the qualifying portion of the tournament.
Turning their attention to singles play, Nze got off to a quick start with a 6-2, 6-4 straight-set victory over qualifier Vanja Corovic of Texas. Nze will take on fourth-seeded Jana Juricova of California in the round of 16.
Zsilinszka fell behind in the early going against Notre Dame's Kristy Frilling, dropping the first set 6-1. She battled back to win the second set, but could not pull out the third as she lost 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. The native of Fayetteville, N.C. will take on Yasmin Schnack tomorrow in the consolation bracket.
