PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.-Duke senior Amanda Granson's run through the qualifying run came to an end today in the round of 16 with a loss to the 29th-ranked player in the nation. Also in action for the Blue Devil tennis team in the doubles consolation bracket were juniors Ellah Nze and Reka Zsilinszka.
Granson defeated to higher-ranked opponents on the first day of the qualifying portion of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship to earn a chance to clinch a spot in the main draw. Meeting up with No. 29 and sixth-seeded Natasha Marks of Arizona in the round of 16, Granson dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision.
In doubles action, Nze and Zsilinszka cruised to an 8-4 win over UCLA's Pamela Montez and Nina Pantic. The Duke tandem will face Whitney Taney and Rika Tatsuno of Michigan in the second round of the consolation round.
Nze and Zsilinszka also will be lining up in the main singles draw tomorrow for a shot at the Riviera All-American Championship title. Nze will go up against a player from the qualifying round, while Zsilinszka will battle Kristy Frilling of Notre Dame in her first match. Singles matches will kick off at 3 p.m. (ET).
