DURHAM, N.C. ? Day two of the Duke Invitational saw another good performance by the Blue Devils' men's tennis squad as they won eight of their nine singles matches and two doubles contests.
“I am really impressed with our singles,” said head coach
Ramsey Smith. “Today I was excited with how we started off in the second sets. Yesterday we won really good first sets and relaxed mentally to allow our opponents to get back into the matches. Today we focused hard and took care of business against some really good players.”
Duke has won 18 of its 19 singles contests through the first two days of the Duke Invitational. Of the 18 wins, 15 have come in straight sets.
Sophomore
Reid Carleton, who is ranked No. 25 in the country, will challenge for the singles title on Monday after earning his second straight win in the tournament to lead the points standings with 19 points. He defeated Charles Bottoni of East Tennessee State in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 to improve to 12-3 this season. Also among the tournament leaders is junior
Dylan Arnould, who is currently in second place. He is also 2-0 in the Duke Invitational after a 6-4, 6-0 win over Grega Teraz of ETSU on Sunday. Arnould evens his season record to 6-6 with the victory.

Torsten Wietoska took his record to 5-4 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Jared Pinsky cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win to improve to 9-5 this season.
Aaron Carpenter is now 5-0 all-time in the Duke Invitational after winning 6-1, 6-2 to take his season record to 7-2.
A pair of freshmen showed some determination after losing the first set on Sunday.
David Holland fell behind early but came back to win in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Luke Marchese forced a super tiebreaker with a 6-2 win in the second set. He quickly fell behind 3-1 but fought back to win the tiebreaker 12-10 for the 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (12-10) win.
“We have 10 good players on our team,” said Smith. “Everyone has stepped up in the last couple of days which is exciting to see. Reid (Carleton) and Kiril (Dimitrov) have separated themselves as are top two guys but Dylan (Arnould) played great today and we are going to be deep this season with a lot of options.”
