Former Blue Devil Nick Horvath was recently awarded the naturalized spot on the New Zealand men's basketball national team. Horvath, who obtained his New Zealand citizenship in April, averaged 17.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game while earning NBL All-Star Five honors with the Wellington Saints.
New Zealand will compete in tournaments in Canada and Slovenia before heading to Athens, Greece to compete in next month's Olympic qualifier.
Horvath, a member of the Duke program from 1999-2004, played in 133 career games. The Shoreview, Minn., native averaged 2.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per game for his career. He was a team captain in 2003-04 and a member of Duke's 2001 National Championship team.
