DURHAM, N.C. --- The No. 11 Duke women's lacrosse team will try to continue its run in the 2008 ACC Tournament on Thursday by facing off against No. 2 seed Virginia at 3:00 p.m., in Scott Stadium. The game will be shown live and on-demand on www.ACCSelect.com.
The Blue Devils: Duke is 10-6 this season and finished third with a 3-2 mark in the ACC. The Blue Devils hold a 4-6 record over ranked teams and a 2-4 mark over top-10 competition. Duke is 2-0 this year in neutral site matchups.
The Cavaliers: Virginia is 12-3 this season and finished in second place in the ACC at 4-1. The Cavaliers are 6-3 versus ranked opposition in 2008 and 2-3 versus opponents in the top 10. Virginia has won the ACC Tournament two straight years and four times in the 11 years of its history.
Series History: Virginia leads the all-time series with Duke, 16-6. The Blue Devils have played Virginia more than any other opponent in their history, and the Cavaliers are one of only two teams that hold more than a two-game series advantage over Duke, with the other being Princeton (4-8). Virginia defeated Duke, 13-9, in Durham on March 29 of this season.
Rankings: The most recent IWLCA poll has the Blue Devils at No. 11. In the latest Inside Lacrosse rankings, Duke was ranked No. 12. Virginia is No. 3 in the IWLCA rankings and No. 4 in Inside Lacrosse's most recent poll.
Duke In The ACC Tournament: Duke is 6-10 all-time in the ACC Tournament, 1-2 as the No. 3 seed and 1-5 against Virginia. The Blue Devils captured their only ACC Tournament Championship with a 9-6 victory over Virginia in 2005. Duke had its string of three consecutive years playing in the championship game snapped last year in the semifinals by North Carolina.
