GREENSBORO, N.C. ? Duke's Ned Crotty and Virginia's Ben Rubeor share the final Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Co-Players of the Week accolade of 2008, as was announced by league officials on Monday.
Crotty netted three goals on Saturday as the second-ranked Blue Devils defeated eighth-ranked Army, 10-6, in Manhasset, N.Y., while Rubeor gave the fourth-ranked Cavaliers four goals and two assists in Virginia's 11-7 win over Dartmouth.
The three goals by Crotty mark the junior's third hat trick of the season and second in three outings. Two of the his three goals versus the Black Knights came on back-to-back opportunities, as the midfielder put the Blue Devils ahead by a 4-0 count with just 24 seconds remaining in the first period then scored again just 45 seconds in the second period to give Duke a 5-0 lead.
A native of New Vernon, N.J., Crotty owns 25 points on 14 goals and 11 assists through his 13 contests this season.
Duke will travel to Charlottesville, Va., this weekend for the 2008 ACC Men's Lacrosse Championships, held April 25 & 27 at Virginia's Klockner Stadium. The Blue Devils went 3-0 in conference regular season action to lock in the number one seed for the league tournament and will face on fourth-seeded North Carolina on Friday, April 25 at 5 p.m. in semifinal action.
