DURHAM, N.C. ? Louis Allen, a former All-America football player at Duke, passed away on Thursday in his hometown of Greensboro, N.C. He was 83.
One of just three players in Duke football history to earn All-Southern Conference honors in three consecutive seasons, Allen starred for the Blue Devils from 1947-49 under Hall of Fame coach Wallace Wade. Duke's team captain and MVP in 1949, Allen was a third team All-America choice at tackle that year.
Allen represented Duke in the Senior Bowl and was a fifth round selection of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1950 NFL Draft. He then spent two seasons with the Steelers.
