BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Duke Indoor Track and Field team completed its final weekend of the regular season at the Virginia Tech Challenge on Friday and Saturday. It marked the third meet of the season for the Blue Devils at Rector Field House in Blacksburg. Results for the Virginia Tech Challenge are available on www.flashresults.com.
Women's: On Saturday afternoon, freshman Anne Marie Gordon hit a height of 11'-7.75” in the pole vault. That mark was good for seventh place at the meet and tied Gordon for fifth place on the Duke records list in the indoor pole vault. It just missed out on the ECAC-qualifying height of 11'-9.73.”
In other Duke-related track and field news, 2007 graduate Shannon Rowbury won the U.S. Indoor Nationals in the 3,000m in a personal best 8:55 in Boston, Mass., on Saturday evening. It is Rowbury's first national title as a professional and her second straight indoor title in two years after winning the NCAA mile in 2007. Rowbury's performance will be shown Sunday on espn2 with other highlights from the U.S. Indoor Nationals from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Men's: Also on Saturday afternoon was freshman Cory Nanni's 4:12.09 mile run. The time earned him a fifth place finish and qualified Nanni for the IC4A Championships in his second individual event of the season.
Senior Peter Lewellen qualified for his second IC4A event of the season in the 400m in Blacksburg. Lewellen's time of 49.10 was good for 16th place and also improved upoin his personal best which ranks third all-time at Duke in the 400m.
The Duke Indoor Track and Field Team will next compete on Feb. 28, 29 and March 1 at the ACC Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C.
