Starting Streaks
Senior wide receiver Eron Riley earned his team-high 34th straight starting nod. Vince Oghobaase and Rob Schirmann each started for the 33rd straight game. Junior quarterback Thaddeus Lewis made his 32nd consecutive start. Kevin Jones and Cameron Goldberg extended their start streaks to 21 straight games. Fred Roland and Michael Tauiliili each started for the 20th consecutive game.
First Career Game
Redshirt freshman Colin Jones played in his first collegiate game. He entered the game on Duke's punt return unit in the fourth quarter. He is the 15th Blue Devil this season to make their collegiate debut.
First Meeting Since 2003
Duke and N.C. State met for the first time since 2003. Saturday marked the 80th meeting between the two schools with the Blue Devils holding a 39-36-5 advantage in the series.
Lewis Throws 46th Career Touchdown Pass
Junior quarterback Thaddeus Lewis recorded his 45th career touchdown pass in the second quarter on a 26-yard scoring strike to Brett Huffman and added his 46th in the fourth quarter to Jay Hollingsworth. His 46 career touchdown passes is just two away from a tie for second place in Duke history. Both Spence Fischer (1992-95) and Steve Slayden (1984-87) tossed 48 touchdown passes in their respective careers. Lewis leads the ACC this season with 14 touchdown passes, which is tied for ninth most in a season in Duke history. He has now thrown multiple touchdown passes in six of nine games this year and has 13 games in his career with two or more touchdown tosses. Lewis also led Duke in rushing on the day with 41 yards on six carries.
Lewis Records
Thaddeus Lewis finished the game 37-of-52 for 317 yards and two touchdowns. The 37 completions and 52 attempts are both career highs while the 317 yards is the second-highest total of his career his third career 300-yard passing game. He has four straight games with 200 passing yards, six this season and 16 in his career. The 37 completions is the second-highest total in Duke history behind Ben Bennett, who completed 38 against Wake Forest in 1980. Lewis' three 300 yard passing games is tied for fifth most in Duke history. In the fourth quarter, Lewis was 15-of-21 passing in the for 123 yards and one touchdown.
Hollingsworth Snags TD Through The Air
Freshman running back Jay Hollingsworth hauled in career-highs of seven receptions and 80 yards and caught a TD from Thaddeus Lewis in the fourth quarter. Hollingsworth added seven rushes for 23 yards for 103 yards of total offense.
Huffman Scores First Touchdown
Sophomore tight end Brett Huffman hauled in a 26-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter for his first career touchdown. Huffman finished the game with three catches for 38 yards. In the last two weeks, he has tallied nine of his 14 career receptions and 109 of his 169 career yards.
Receptions Streak
Senior wide receiver Eron Riley extended his streak to 23 straight games with at least one catch. He has a catch in 38 of his last 39 games. With nine receptions for 89 yards, he now has caught at least five passes in six of the nine games on the year. True freshman Johnny Williams has caught a pass in each of his first eight collegiate games.
Riley Numbers
Eron Riley caught nine receptions for 89 yards. The nine receptions ties a season and career high. He now has career-high 53 receptions this season for 579 yards and six touchdowns this season and needs just four more receptions for the Top 10 season chart. He has surpassed 500 receiving yards for the third time in his career.
Double Digit Tackles
Senior linebacker Michael Tauiliili posted a career-high 18 tackles, including 15 solo, against N.C. State for his 16th career double digit tackle game. He as 10 or more tackles in four of the nine games this season. He entered the game leading the ACC with 10.1 tackles per game.
Leading Tackler
Michael Tauiliili led Duke with 18 tackles against N.C. State. The senior has led the Blue Devils in tackles in eight of the nine games this season. He now has a team-high 99 tackles for the year, nine tackles shy of a career high. He had 108 tackles as a junior last season.
Tackles For Loss
Michael Tauiliili recorded a tackle for loss in the second quarter to move into a tie for fourth all-time at Duke with 41 career tackles for loss. Tauiliili now has eight tackles for loss on the season.
Akinbiyi Tallies Third Sack
Senior defensive end Greg Akinbiyi registered his third sack of the year in the second quarter. He now has a team-high 10.5 tackles for loss. All three of his career sacks have come this season.
Maggio Ties Game With Field Goal
Sophomore kicker Nick Maggio made a 29-yard field goal in the first quarter to tie the score at 3-3. He has now made 9 of his 12 field goal attempts on the season. He is also a perfect 25-of-25 on extra point attempts.
