DURHAM, N.C. ? Brendan Fitzgerald of the Duke men's soccer team has been named the Ronald McDonald House Charities Student-Athlete of the Week.
A senior goalkeeper from Boxford, Mass., Fitzgerald is enjoying an excellent season as the Blue Devils' starter after spending most of his first three college campaigns in a reserve role.
On Oct. 25, Fitzgerald posted his seventh shutout of the season in a 1-0 overtime victory over 19th-ranked Virginia. He recorded five saves against the Cavaliers, including two in the second half when the Blue Devils were playing a man down.
Fitzgerald has allowed only 11 goals in his 15 appearances this season, with shutouts in his last three contests. He was named the ACC player of the week on Oct. 28.
