DURHAM, N.C. ? The Duke rowing team heads to Charlottesville, Va., this Sunday, Nov. 16 to compete in five races at the Rivanna Romp.
The Blue Devils will enter eight boats in the competition, including two in the varsity eight, two in the novice eight, two in the pair and one each in the double and the four. The race opens with the varsity eight showdown at 9 a.m. and follows with the freshman eight at 10:30 am. The smaller boats will then launch at 11 a.m.
Duke is one of three ACC squads competing in the Rivanna Romp, joining defending ACC Champion Virginia and Miami. Iowa, Ohio State, Tennessee, Georgetown, Penn and Old Dominion will also be on-site.
The Blue Devils are coming off a strong showing at the Head of the Hooch on Nov. 1-2 in which they collected three top-three finishes, including a first-place showing in the freshman four. Duke's open eight entry also came in second at the race, while three other boats finished fifth or better.
The Rivanna Romp will be the last fall race for Duke, as they begin preparation for the spring season which begins on March 15 against Louisville. Duke will also compete in the Longhorn Invitational during the spring along with the ACC Championship and South/Central Regional Championship. The Blue Devils also have showdowns against Georgetown and George Washington along with an April 4 road trip to Orlando, Fla., to face Central Florida.
