DURHAM, N.C.?Duke University junior Josh Bienenfeld was honored today for his outstanding work in the classroom and on the field as he was voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Men's Soccer First Team. This is the second consecutive year Bienenfeld earned the honor.
In order to qualify for the award a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and play in at least 50 percent of the team's games. Three players from the ACC earned first-team recognition and five non-seniors, including Bienenfeld, were represented on the 11-man squad.
A psychology major, Bienenfeld has started all 16 games for the 8-5-3 Blue Devils. He tallied a goal against No. 25 Harvard and has been a leader both in the midfield and defense for Duke this season. Bienenfeld is a two-year starter for Duke and has played in all 59 games since arriving on campus. For his career he has two goals and four assists for eight points, while helping the Blue Devils to an ACC Championship in 2006 and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
A two-time All-Academic ACC honoree, the native of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., has been selected to the Distinguished Dean's List three times and to the Dean's List all four semesters. He currently ranks in the top two percent of his class at Duke.
The Blue Devils close out their non-conference schedule on Nov. 2, hosting Northern Illinois at 1 p.m., at Koskinen Stadium.
