Starting Streaks
Four players have started over 20 straight games for the Blue Devils. Senior wide receiver Eron Riley earned his team-high 31st straight starting nod. Vince Oghobaase and Rob Schirmann started for the 30th straight game while junior quarterback Thaddeus Lewis has now started in 29 consecutive games. Cameron Goldberg and Kevin Jones extended their start streaks to 18 straight. Junior cornerback Leon Wright and junior linebacker Vincent Rey had a streak of 17 straight starts end against Miami.
First Career Start
True freshman cornerback Lee Butler started in the nickel back formation for his first collegiate start. He is the third true freshman to start this season for Duke. Wide receiver Johnny Williams has started four games while safety Matt Daniels started against Virginia.
Lewis Throws Touchdown Pass No. 40 and 41
Thaddeus Lewis connected with Clifford Harris for a two-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and hit Raphael Chestnut for a 10-yard scoring strike in the third quarter. Lewis now has 41 career touchdown passes and nine on the season. With the scoring strike he moves past Florida State's Drew Weatherford on the ACC active receivers list.
Multiple Touchdown Passes
Thaddeus Lewis threw two touchdown passes against Miami for his fourth multi-touchdown game of the season. He now has 11 career multi-touchdown games.
Lewis Runs For Score
Quarterback Thaddeus Lewis scored a rushing touchdown from one yard out for his second rushing touchdown of the season. He now has five career rushing touchdowns to go with 40 passing touchdowns. As a team Duke has seven rushing touchdowns on the year.
Harris Hauls In First Career Receiving Touchdown
Clifford Harris caught a two-yard pass for a touchdown in the second quarter for his first career receiving touchdown. It is the fourth total touchdown in 2008 for Harris and fifth of his career.
Harris Connects On Halfback Pass
Senior running back Clifford Harris completed a 39-yard pass to Eron Riley in the second quarter. It was the first pass attempt of the season for Harris and fourth of his career. He is now 2-of-4 passing for 45 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Chestnut Catches First Touchdown Of Year
Senior wide receiver Raphael Chestnut caught a 10-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter for his first touchdown of the year. He now has three career touchdown grabs with his first two coming in his sophomore season in 2006. His first career touchdown reception came against Miami at home in 2006.
Consecutive Receptions Streak
Senior Eron Riley extended his streak to 20 consecutive games with a reception. Running back Clifford Harris has now caught a pass in 12 straight games while Austin Kelly extended his streak to nine consecutive contests with a catch.
Aye-Darko Tallies Two Picks
Senior safety Adrian Aye-Darko recorded two interceptions against Miami. He now has three interceptions on the season and four career interceptions. The last Duke player to tally two interceptions in a game was Leon Wright, who intercepted two passes against Miami on Sept. 29, 2007.
Rey Records First Career Interception
Junior linebacker Vincent Rey intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter for his first career interception. It was the third interception of the game for the Duke defense and ninth of the season.
Defense Causes Turnovers
Duke intercepted three passes against Miami to give them 15 caused turnovers in six games this season. They now have nine interceptions to go along with six fumble recoveries. The Blue Devils entered the game ranked tied for 19th in the nation with a +5 turnover margin. Duke has forced two or more turnovers in four of the six games this season.
Maggio Makes 40-Yard Field Goal
Sophomore kicker Nick Maggio made his 40-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter to give Duke a 17-7 lead. He is now 6-of-7 on field goal attempts in 2008, including a perfect 2-of-2 from 40 yards or longer. He is also a perfect 18-of-18 on extra point tries.
Asack Punches One In
Junior Zack Asack scored on a 2-yard run with just :12 left in the game. It was his first rushing TD of the season and fourth of his career.
