DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke women's lacrosse team will face-off in their first fall exhibition on Saturday at 2 p.m., versus Longwood at home. It will be the first of five dates this fall in which the Blue Devils play exhibition matches.
On Sun., Sept. 30, Duke will host Syracuse and their new head coach Gary Gait at 12 p.m. Four days later the Blue Devils will make the short trip to Chapel Hill, N.C., to take on North Carolina at 7 p.m., on Oct. 4.
Duke will take part in two fall ball tournaments in the Washington, D.C. area in late October. On Sat., Oct. 20 the Blue Devils will participate in the all-day George Mason tournament in Fairfax, Va., and on Sat., Oct. 27 will compete in the Georgetown tournament in Washington, D.C. The schedule for the George Mason tournament has yet to be released. At the Georgetown tournament, Duke will face Notre Dame at 12:50 p.m., Dartmouth at 3:30 p.m., and Virginia at 5:10 p.m.
Duke finished the 2007 season with a 16-4 record. They won a share of the ACC regular season title for the fourth year in a row, advanced to the Final Four for the third consecutive season and accumulated the third-highest win total in school history. The Blue Devils finished sixth in the final rankings and were awarded the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The team will return seven of 12 starters and 24 of 31 letterwinners in 2008.
