Three Blue Devils Selected To U.S. Elite And Developmental Teams

BALTIMORE, Md. - Duke senior attacker Caroline Cryer and former Blue Devil attacker Katie Chrest were among the 24 players named to the 2007-08 United States Elite women's lacrosse team following a three-day tryout at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County coordinated by US Lacrosse. Redshirt junior midfielder Jessica Adam was one 24 players named to the 2007-08 U.S. Developmental team. A total of 98 players competed in the tryout.

The 24-player Elite team includes nine new players this year ? including Cryer and five others that moved up from the Developmental team. Cryer is also one of only three current college players selected to the Elite team, joining Northwestern's Meredith Frank and North Carolina's Erica LaGrow. Chrest, the 2005 Tewaaraton Trophy winner, is one of three former Tewaaraton Trophy winners on the team, joining Rachael Becker Dececco (2004) and Kristen Kjellman (2006, 2007).

The 24-player Developmental team is dominated by current collegiate players with 17 collegians named to the team. Among the collegians are three players that just finished their freshmen seasons ? Penn's Ali Deluca, Maryland's Caitlyn McFadden and North Carolina's Kristen Taylor. Mallory Poole, a rising senior at C.W. Post, was the lone player named to either team from a non-Division I program.

The players on the two teams represent 21 total colleges with Maryland, Princeton and Virginia each having five representatives.

The next activity for the U.S. teams will be the Stars & Stripes Weekend in October. The event is slated to be held in Portland, Ore., and will feature competition against the University of California, the University of Oregon and Stanford University.
