DURHAM, N.C. --- The Duke women's lacrosse team placed a league-high nine players - including first team All-America Kristen Waagbo and third team All-Americas Carolyn Davis, Leigh Jester and Rachel Sanford - on the 2007 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Women's Lacrosse team, as announced on Monday by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
Seniors Michelle Menser and Meghan Ferguson, junior Allie Johnson and sophomores Christina Germinario and Kim Imbesi also received all-conference academic recognition. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
All six league schools competing in women's lacrosse are represented on the 2007 academic squad, including six student-athletes who received all-conference athletic accolades. Duke led all schools with nine honorees, three of which were All-ACC selections on the field, as well, in Davis, Jester and Waagbo. The Blue Devils finished the 2007 season with a 16-4 record and advanced to the Final Four for the third straight year. Duke won a share of the ACC regular season title for the fourth year in a row and accumulated the third-highest win total in school history.
Virginia Tech and North Carolina placed six student-athletes each on the academic squad, followed by Maryland with four selections. Rounding out the squad were Boston College and Virginia, which each tallied three honorees.
