DURHAM, N.C. - A league-high 15 Duke men's lacrosse players -- including three All-Americas in Nick O'Hara, Tony McDevitt and Brad Ross, as well as team captain Ed Douglas -- headline the 2007 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men's Lacrosse team, as announced this week by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
Duke led all ACC schools with its 15 selections, as seniors Fred Krom and Michael Ward, juniors Bo Carrington, Chris Loftus, Ryan McFadyen and Michael Young, sophomores Mike Catalino, Sam Payton and Steve Schoeffel, and freshmen Parker McKee and Max Quinzani also received all-conference academic recognition.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
The Blue Devils concluded the 2007 season with a 17-3 overall ledger, matching the NCAA record for wins in a season set previously by the 2005 Duke, 2006 Hofstra and 2006 Virginia squads. Duke captured the league regular season and tournament championships and advanced to the national title game for the second time in three seasons.
Virginia had six student-athletes named to the 2007 academic squad, followed by Maryland's five selections and North Carolina's four honorees.
