NEW LONDON, N.C. ? Senior Jake Grodzinsky fired a three-under 69 on Sunday to pace Duke to a three-over 291 in the final round of the ACC Championship at Old North State Club. The Blue Devils closed the tournament tied for fourth with a one-under 863, while Grodzinsky finished tied for ninth with a one-under 215 (75-71-69).
Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech tied for the tournament championship at 10-under (854). The Hokies blistered the course for a nine-under 279 in the final round, while the Yellow Jackets got a birdie from Cameron Tringale in the final group on the par 5 18th hole to force the tie. Clemson finished third at six-under (858) with Duke and Florida State tying for fourth. Florida State fired a nine-under 279 in the final round to tie Virginia Tech for the day's low round. North Carolina finished in sixth place at five-over 869 while N.C. State finished seventh at 874, Wake Forest finished eighth at 876, Virginia finished ninth at 878, Maryland finished 10th at 910 and Boston College finished 11th with a 913 total.
Florida State's Jonas Blixt shot a seven-under 65 on Sunday to claim the individual title at eight-under (208). Tringale, the defending ACC champion, placed second at seven-under (209), while Ryan Sypniewski (Va. Tech) and Kyle Stanley (Clemson) tied for third at six-under (210).
Grodzinsky opened with a birdie on the par-5 opening hole and added birdies on No. 6 and No. 8 before suffering his lone bogey of the day on the par-4 ninth hole. The Cornville, Ariz., native parred No 10. and birdied No. 11 before closing with seven straight pars to cap off a three-under 69.
Junior Michael Schachner closed the event tied for 12th with an even-par 216 after shooting a two-over 74 in the final round. He carded a team-high five birdies on the day, but those were offset by three double-bogeys. Schachner, playing in the final group of the day, narrowly missed an eagle putt on the par 5 18th before sinking the birdie putt to move Duke into a tie for fourth overall.
Freshman Adam Long shot a two-over 74 in the final round to finish the tournament tied for 15th with a one-over 217 (72-71-74). The St. Louis, Mo., native opened with seven pars and a pair of bogeys on the front nine to make the turn at two-over (38). He got back to even-par with birdies on No. 12 and No. 14 before bogeys on No. 16 and No. 18 dropped him back to two-over for the day.
Jeff Edelman, a freshman from Southlake, Texas, also shot a two-over 74 on Sunday to finish tied for 44th overall with an 11-over 227 (74-79-74). After opening with back-to-back rounds of 71, sophomore Clark Klaasen ran into trouble en route to a six-over 78 in the final round. Klaasen had a pair of birdies on the day, but also suffered three bogeys, one double-bogey and a triple on Sunday. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native finished tied for 30th at four-over (220).

*** Duke's six stroke advantage over North Carolina gave the Blue Devils another point in the Carlyle Cup competition between the two schools. Duke now holds a 13.5-12.5 lead in the challenge.

*** Grodzinsky had a team-high 37 pars in the event, while Edelman was second with 36.
*** Klaasen and Grodzinsky played the par 5s at six-under and five-under respectively.
