NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Duke Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field team finished up the weekend in New York on Saturday in the second day of the Armory Collegiate Invitational. A complete list of results for the weekend can be found at www.armorytrack.com.
Women's: Junior Lara Jones continued her success this season in the pole vault. The native of Seattle, Wash., hit a height of 12'-3.50,” good for her second best mark of the season and fifth place at the meet. Jones has qualified for ECAC standards in all four meets she has competed in this year.
In the women's high jump, senior Debra Vento equaled her ECAC qualifying distance of 5'-8.0”. Vento came in fifth place at the meet.
The 4x800 relay team was the highlight of the day for the Duke women, finishing fifth at the Armory Invitational. Freshman Katie Doswell, freshman Christen Harsha, freshman Shelley Forbes, and senior Lindsay Owen ran the event in an ECAC-qualifying time of 9:12.50. They were the second Blue Devil women's team to qualify for the postseason in the 4x800 relay this year. Doswell and Harsha were also a part of that first team at the Virginia Tech Opener on Jan. 13.
Men's: Freshman Tradelle Ward ran the men's mile in a personal best of 4:19.30. That is the best Duke time in the mile this year. Ward will continue to work towards the IC4A qualifying time of 4:14.40.
The best showing for the men on the day was the 4x800 relay team of junior John Brockardt, sophomore Chris Rowland, freshman Tradelle Ward, and freshman Dan McManamon. These four ran the relay in an IC4A qualifying time of 7:41.60, good for fourth place in New York.
A Look Ahead: Duke will compete next weekend in two different meets: the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Feb. 9 and the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. on Feb 9-10. The Blue Devils will not host a meet until the outdoor season, when there will be two in Durham. The Duke Invitational is Apr. 6-7 and the Duke Twilight is May 6, and both will be held at Wallace Wade Stadium.
