Day Three

2/26/2007 12:00:00 AM | Men's Golf
The 20th ranked Duke men's golf team survived windy conditions and a tough course setup to post a second round total of 297 for a two-day total of 581, five over par, good for a tie for 10th place with Texas.
Freshman Adam Long paced Duke on day two with an even-par 72. Long played bogey free through the first 14 holes and had it to two under before making bogey on hole number one and on the extremely difficult par 3 third hole. Long is tied for 31st at one over for the tourney.
Junior Michael Schachner fired a one over par 73 and is tied for 21st at one under for the event. He also had it to two under, but bogied 16, 17 and got a tough break on three when his three iron sailed over the par three as the wind stopped in mid swing, costing him another bogey.
Senior Jake Grodzinsky got off to a rough start with a bogey and a double after his second shot on five sailed over the green into a hazard. He posted birdies on holes 1,11 and 15 on his way to a two over 74. He is tied for 27th at 144, even par.
Sophomore Clark Klaasen fired a six-over 78 with a bogey, triple bogey finish on three and the par five fourth. Klaasen had birdies on two and seven and hit the ball well all day before having a bit of bad luck in the bunker on the fourth hole.
Freshman Jeff Edelman fired an 83 to go with his 75 from day one and is tied for 84th.
Georgia fired an 11 under total of 277 to lead the event at 556, 20 under par. Stanford is second at 560, 16 under, after a second round 279. Day one leader East Tennessee State fired a two over par 290 to slip to third at 13 under 563. Alabama and Clemson are tied for fourth at 567, nine under, with Minnesota in sixth at four under 572. Georgia Tech is seventh at two under 574, Florida and Oklahoma State are tied for eighth at one over 577.
The Blue Devils play at 6 am Eastern with Oklahoma State, Texas and Kent State on holes nine through 12 to close out the tournament on Tuesday.
