Duke Head Coach Gail Goestenkors
Opening Statement:
“I give Boston College a lot of credit. I thought this was one of our best halves offensively. In the first half, we shared the ball very well, we were hitting from inside, from outside, and we were pushing in transition. We've had two really good days of practice and that first half was more of what we're used and what we are wanting to do offensively. BC didn't give up and, obviously, they played us a lot tougher in the second half. Kathrin Ress is one of the best post players in the conference and she showed why tonight. She's really a tough match-up; she's big, she's strong, she's versatile and she got them started off on the right foot. Then we did a much better job once we settled in to our defense and started giving a little bit of help on her. Overall, we're pleased with the win and ready to move on.”
On Duke's offense:
“They went from their man to their zone and it seemed like any time they went zone, we were skipping the ball and Abby [Waner] hit a couple of threes against their zone. So then they had to go back to their man and we penetrated real well. Obviously Bridgette [Mitchell] did a great job getting to the basket. We found her really well when they were in their zone for just lay-ups.”
On the readiness of the team:
“I feel really good. I mean, we're challenged everyday in practice. We always do time and score situations several times a day in practice. So, I think that we have been challenged by teams where we might have had big leads but they came back and tied the score, and we've handled those kinds of pressures. I think that we are in a good place.”

On being fired up the whole game:
“I think that's just learning from the previous games where we were coming out so slow. We just needed to have the attack mindset coming into the game and in the second half.”
On teammate Bridgette Mitchell:
“She is a very aggressive player. She keeps the play going, even in practice when we're running offense the play never stops until the whistle blows. She is playing really well for us right now.”
On Lindsey struggling in passes a bit, then refocusing the team
“I guess it just comes from running the point freshman year and a little bit of experience. Lindsey just happened to be throwing a couple of bad passes with a couple of plays, but Lindsey will be fine.”
Bridgette Mitchell
On scoring:
“I was in the right place in the right time. A lot of openings were there so my teammates just found me really well today.”
On scoring off of wild passes:
“It was like ?oh, there's the ball' so I'd try to put it in the basket, but I was just in the right place at the right time.”
Boston College Head Coach Cathy Ingles
On the Kathrin Ress-Alison Bales matchup:
“I thought [Kathrin Ress] did okay. Obviously, she picked up that third foul, or fourth foul, and sat down, but I wasn't even looking Bales versus Ress in this game. I just was looking at the fact that Duke has so many weapons. Bales, I think, is much improved, has done a good job, and she's certainly one of the best centers in the country, but I wasn't really looking at it as being a duel between those guys. I knew that if we did shut down Bales then they would have a lot of other weapons. We just simply wanted to neutralize her as much as we can, but I wasn't making it one against one.”
On Kindyll Dorsey's struggles:
“Kindyll had a rough game for a lot of different reasons. First of all, Duke did a great job on her, but she got whacked in the last game, [on] her shoulder, so he hasn't really practiced much for two days. [It was] one of these games I wanted her to play and use her, but at the same time I didn't want her to get reinjured. But on top of that, Duke did a really nice job of denying her the ball. She came off a great game, and usually when she comes off a great game like that, the next game you play people simply blanket her. She needs to come off her screens a little bit better, and I don't think she did in today's game. Hopefully, she learns from that. But I thought they did a nice job in just really denying her, but Duke does that on the wing anyway. They get high in the lanes and they make it tough for you to enter the ball or reverse it.”
On Duke's offensive performance in the first half:
“They have one of the best running games I've seen. I think it was a combination of things. We just weren't getting back quick enough, but I think they were just getting their shots and that's the fastest I've seen any team get the team down court of anybody we've played. I don't know if Gail [Goestenkors] does it every game. I did sat to our kids coming in that this team runs better than anybody we've seen on film. My question was, “Do they traditionally do that?” But it was hard for us to keep up, plus they were getting boards off of that. We were trying to scramble a little bit I think. Their primary break, they were scoring on that, but if they weren't Bridgette [Mitchell] did a super job. She was just killing us on the boards off of transition and that's something that hurt us too.”
